Dear Parent or Guardian of Carroll County middle school or elementary school student:

On Friday, April 21, 2017, our middle school and elementary school students were ready to test in math on the Georgia Milestones. Early Friday morning, a power outage occurred in Atlanta that serviced AT&T equipment for the state computer network. This power outage created internet complications for 70 school districts in Georgia. Unfortunately, Carroll County was one of the districts impacted. As we are committed to online testing as a district, this situation disrupted our plans for testing today.

Our middle school and elementary school students will complete their Georgia Milestones math assessment either on Monday or Tuesday next week (April 24 or April 25). The state Department of Education is allowing systems who were negatively impacted by today to reset their testing schedule. With this change in math, 5th and 8th grade students will now take their Georgia Milestones assessment in science on Wednesday, April 26 instead of Tuesday, April 25.

We apologize for this inconvenience and for this variance of our testing plans. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s school or our district office. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Sincerely,

Travis Thomas

Director of Secondary Education and Assessment
