Hours of Operation for Students

Our Media Center is wild about reading! It is our vision is to foster a love of reading in every child.

Goals:

  • Provide materials (print and non-print) that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests, socio-economic backgrounds, abilities, and maturity levels of pupils served.
  • Provide materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards.
  • Provide materials on various sides of issues so that students may develop, under guidance, the practice of critical analysis of all media.
  • Provide materials representative of many religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contributions to our world and American heritage.
  • Provide background information which will allow students to make intelligent judgments in their daily lives.

Pre-K through second grade students may check out one book daily. Third grade through fifth grade students may check out two books for a two week period. Students may come to the media center as their teacher permits.

Accelerated Reader is a big part of our reading program here at Ithica Elementary. It encourages independent reading--one of the key elements in a balanced reading program. We all know that more reading produces better readers. Therefore, Ithica Elementary offers a variety of rewards for participation in this program.

Every student who completes (including parent signature) a Six Flags Read to Succeed form proving they read for at least 360 minutes will receive a free Six Flags Over Georgia ticket at the end of the year. The Read to Succeed program usually begins in January and ends before spring break. Keep your eye on the student agenda for flyers and specifics about this program.

Ithica Elementary hosts several books fairs each year. This is a great way to build a wonderful book collection at home. All profits received by this fundraiser are used to provide our media center with as many student resources as possible.
