 IES Administration

Welcome to Ithica Elementary School. Our vision is to provide the children of our community with a premier education that will serve as a strong foundation through the middle and high school years. This can be more easily accomplished when parents, teachers, and students work together as a team. Together we can achieve extraordinary results!

The administrative team is committed to the following:

  1. A Safe and Orderly Atmosphere. Discipline and academic success go hand-in-hand. Where there is chaos or fear, little learning occurs. We encourage our students daily to be responsible and to treat others the way they want to be treated.
  2. Student Celebrations. We have lots of student celebrations and recognition at our school. We believe that reinforcing effort can help teach students one of the most valuable lessons - the harder you try, the more successful you are. In addition, providing recognition for specific goals not only enhances achievement, but stimulates student motivation.
  3. Attention to Character. We treat children as moral beings and teach about right and wrong. Teachers help train children in habits that lead to better lives.
  4. Great Teachers. Great teachers are the heart of our school. Our teachers are adults of sound character who like children, know the material, and effectively impart knowledge and skills.
  5. High Expectations. Attitudes toward learning often become self-fulfilling prophecies. Schools that maintain high standards get greater academic achievement from students.
  6. Homework. Achievement rises when teachers give homework and children conscientiously do it. All students should read nightly. See the IES Reading Log for grade-level expectations. Students are expected to learn their addition and subtraction facts by the middle of their 2nd grade year. Students in grades 3-5 are expected to learn both their multiplication and division facts. If your child tells you that they do not have homework, they should be reading and practicing their mathematics facts.
  7. Parent Involvement. At Ithica we want to continue our tradition of strong parental involvement. Parents should monitor and assist with academics, stay in touch with teachers, and send children to school who are ready to learn. Our staff views parents as allies and invites them to join the education enterprise.
  8. A Sense of Community. Ithica Elementary is a welcoming place where students know that adults care about them. All its participants- grownups and children alike- share enthusiasm, pride, and a sense of common purpose. There is much seriousness about learning and also much joy.
We are glad to have you with us at IES, and we want to assure you that we will do our best to help your child experience academic, social, and emotional growth. With your help and cooperation, this will be an excellent experience.
