School Schedule

7:20 AM	School doors will be open to students and breakfast served daily.
7:50 AM	Tardy Bell
7:55 AM	Morning Announcements
2:45 PM	Buses Load
2:50 PM	Car Rider Pick-up Begins
3:10 PM	All car riders must be picked up from school**
**All students not picked up by 3:10 will be placed in the After School Program and charged a fee of $6.00 per student.

ARRIVAL

The school will open daily at 7:20 AM. School begins promptly at 7:50 AM for all students. Students should be in class ready to begin at 7:50. Students who arrive by car and who plan to eat breakfast in the cafeteria should arrive by 7:35. If the student arrives by car after 7:50, an adult must accompany the student to the office for check-in.

DEPARTURE

Student pick up arrangements should be made before morning drop off. All students must be picked up by 3:10. Any changes to the normal mode of transportation should be written in the student agenda. For student safety, we cannot accept transportation changes by phone.

After School Program

Ithica Elementary offers an after school program that provides childcare for parents. The hours are from 3:00 – 6:00. The cost is $6.00 a day. All participating students must have the appropriate forms completed and approved before their first day. For more information, contact our ASP coordinator or visit our ASP link online.

Early Check-Out/Tardies

Students checking in late or leaving school early must do so in the office with a parent or guardian. Tardies and checkouts are monitored. Three hundred minutes away from school will accumulate an absence. Early check-outs count as tardies and therefore are unexcused unless the school receives documentation that would warrant an excuse.There will be no student check-out in the front office after 2:30 PM. without approval from an administrator. Parents/guardians are not allowed to pick up children from the gym. Release of students is determined by identifying parent pick-up numbers in vehicles and front office check-outs.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is vital to school achievement. When your child must be absent from school, an excuse from a doctor or a written note by a parent or guardian must be brought to the teacher the day the student returns to school. The student will otherwise be unexcused. Make-up work is necessary. Fifteen or more absences could result in student retention.

Student Registration

We are always excited to get new students in the Ithica area. IES requires that the parent/guardian provide specific documentation at the time of registration. Please bring the most recent water, light, or cable bill, or a rental agreement for proof of residency. You must also bring you child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization record (GA form 3231), EED (GA form 3300), and custody and/or guardianship papers, if applicable.

When enrolling your child/children in the state of Georgia for the first time, you have 30 days from the enrollment date to have your immunizations transferred onto a Georgia form. This also includes the EED. If you have not established a physician in the area, you can call the Carroll County Health Department and set up an appointment to get these records. (770-836-6667)

VISITING CLASSROOMS

In order to protect instructional time, classroom visits must be arranged with the teacher in advance. We welcome parents and hope you will schedule visits to Ithica Elementary to see the programs and activities planned for your children. All visitors, including parents, are required to report to the office before going into classrooms or any other areas of the school.

MEDICATIONS

Non-Prescription Medicine: Medications such as aspirin, Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, throat spray, etc. can be administered at school. If your child needs any non-prescription medicine, a parent or guardian must bring it to the office with written directions for administration and parent/guardian signature.

Prescription Medicine: Medicine prescribed by a doctor to be given at school must be brought to the nurse in the prescription bottle. Parents must also complete a drug administration form that is kept on file in the school office.

Under no circumstances should any medication be transported by a student.

IES Dress Code

Students should come to school dressed neatly and comfortably. Students may not wear short-shorts, tank tops, or baseball cleats. Ithica would like all students to wear their shirts tucked in and belted at the waist. Baggy clothing is not allowed. Non-Marking soled tennis shoes are required in the gym. Scarves, hats, and baseball caps may not be worn in school. Girls are asked not to wear make-up. Jewelry is to be kept to a bare minimum. The Principal has the authority to determine inappropriate dress. Parents will be contacted and required to provide alternate clothing when deemed necessary.

Prohibited Articles

Students may not bring these items to school: Toys, cell phones, electronic games, electronic devices (radios, CD players, etc.), soft drinks, or chewing gum. Articles collected under this rule may not be returned to the child.

Rolling bookbags are prohibited in our school due to the damage they were doing to our brand new floors. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

DISCIPLINE

We believe in a discipline plan that promotes a structure for each student to be responsible for his/her own learning and behavior. We will strive to create a positive school climate where all students are treated with respect and dignity at all times. It is our belief that all children will behave in a positive and appropriate manner if they are provided clear, specific expectations and are allowed the opportunity to practice the established procedures.

Teachers and administrators place a high priority on consistency and fairness in redirecting and disciplining students, while realizing each child is an individual with his/her own unique circumstances and needs. Students will never be publicly reprimanded, humiliated, or ridiculed. All children will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity. It is our belief that positive self-esteem is critical for academic success and should be fostered by parents, teachers, and administrators.
