Welcome to Ithica Elementary where our mission is to capture and inspire students through technology, good teaching, and motivation. Ithica Elementary is a new school that opened in the fall of 2004. We house students from Pre-K to Fifth Grade. All of our teachers are highly qualified with 57% holding a master’s degree or higher education. Everything about Ithica should make you feel at home and at ease from our friendly office staff to our hard- working custodians and lunchroom staff. |

Our school administration and staff work hard to provide a safe environment for our students. This all starts with an enclosed building. This is our atrium (pictured on left), From here you can visit any classroom, the gym, office, or cafeteria. In this area you will find postings of student celebration for Accelerated Reader, Titan Typing Whizzes, Masters of Multiplication, sight word races, and much more. |
|
Student celebrations are a major focus of our culture here at Ithica. It is one way that we inspire our students to be successful. Not only do we celebrate student success but we also celebrate student motivation and effort. |

 |
Our cafeteria features a friendly outgoing staff who host Thanksgiving dinners, one-hundredth day of school celebrations and much more. Parents are always welcome to visit and enjoy a hot lunch with their children. |
| Our Media Center contains over 9,000 titles for student check out and five student computers. Our media specialist works hard to make reading fun with an Accelerated Reader (AR) luau, book fairs, prizes, and dress up days. |

Ithica Elementary has two computer labs which serve very different roles in our curriculum. Each computer lab consists of thirty computers. Our first computer lab, pictured on the left, is a direct extension of our classroom curriculum. Students learn to type, publish writing, create multi-media presentations, and research topics. |
| Our second computer lab, pictured below, plays a very different role in the curriculum. We use a research-based program called Compass Learning that provides individualized student instruction through assessments and games that our students love. This lab is also available for students in the morning until the first bell at 7:45, during exploratory time, and after school. |

Physical education classes are held in our gym. Students are taught the rules and fundamentals of all sports as well as health and physical fitness. Students are taught using essential questions, key vocabulary, and writing across the curriculum. At the end of each unit, students participate in culminating activities such as a volleyball or football game with the students playing the faculty.

One of the unique features of our school is our outdoor classroom. It features a covered seating area, butterfly garden, orchard, math grids, raised-bed gardens and weather station. The yellow blocks represent the "Yellow Brick Road to Outdoor Learning."

Another unique feature of Ithica Elementary is our Morning News Crew. The News Crew features fifth grade students who are “on the air” live in our classrooms daily. They report today’s lunch, today in history, and the weather. Students hear announcements, receive recognition, hear their birthday announced, and receive a special message from the principal. |
|
In our classrooms, students experience interactive, hands-on learning. Thanks to the generosity of our parents, we now have three computers in almost every classroom. |

Promethean Boards are a part of our technology vision that you shouldn’t miss. Using these boards, teachers and students have the Internet, interactive charts and maps, videos, and resources at their fingertips. With a click, students have the capability to create, customize and integrate text, images, the Internet, video and audio content without the wait time in traditional classroom environments. In addition, everything on the board can be enlarged so that even students in the back of the classroom can see what is being shown. |
|
We believe that teachers and students should be life long learners. Our teachers attend weekly staff development sessions, as well as courses, workshops or classes offered within the county, at the University of West Georgia, or the West Georgia RESA throughout the school year and summer months. We feel it is vital for our teachers to model collaboration and learning communities for our students. Our teachers do this by planning together and discussing instructional strategies and interventions. |

|
Our school motto, “I am responsible for my day.” is not only posted throughout our school, it is the heart of our student expectations. In our building you will hear administrators, counselors, teachers, and students using this phrase. Students are learning what it means to be outstanding students and productive citizens. |
|
Ithica Elementary has a school-wide discipline plan that includes rewarding good behavior. Part of our reward system is "Tag, You’re It." When students are caught being good or being responsible they receive "Tag, You’re It" coupons from staff members. Throughout the month student names are drawn to win t-shirts and car magnets. Here at Ithica Elementary, it is cool to do the right thing. |
